Summary

The 3D-ASSET project aims at developing a new generation of highly performing advanced all-solid-state Li-ion batteries (ASSB) digitally manufactured-by-design. The shape and architectures of components and cells will be optimized on the basis of novel materials and 3D printing manufacturing techniques. The focus of the proposal is put on i) development of advanced materials for ASSBs with high performance capabilities and their effective implementation in slurries, inks and filaments for different 3D printing technologies ii) fabrication and characterization of a new generation of cobalt-free and anode-less 3D printed monolithic batteries. The project approach consists in a product-driven optimization of ceramic 3D processing techniques on relevant Li-ion battery materials, i.e. to optimize the processing parameters to deal with complex shapes and tunable surface finishing. In this regard, 3D-ASSET can be considered a pioneering project that contributes to the digitalization of the battery manufacturing by demonstrating 3D printing as a scalable and sustainable manufacturing technique.
