Barcelona has celebrated the Science Festival, reaching its 17th edition with a program full of innovative and outreach activities. Researchers from the Department of Nanoionics and Fuel Cells at IREC participated in this annual event, offering a variety of proposals focused on science, energy, and technological innovation. This festival presents a unique opportunity to enjoy science from a different and enriching perspective.
Several researchers participated on Saturday, June 8th, in a scientific theater with the show “Intelligence Contest: Humans versus Machines.” This event featured two sessions, at 5:55 PM and 7:20 PM, where the researchers Juan Carlos Gonzalez-Rosillo, Francesco Chiabrera, Lucile Bernadet, and Carlota Bozal explored the relationship between artificial and human intelligence. The show presented a competition of intelligences in various activities and challenges, prompting attendees to reflect on the past, present, and future of intelligence.
That same Saturday, the researcher Daiana Ferreira participated in an exciting Science Slam titled “Can you print batteries at home?”. This event consisted of a series of micro-talks where 10 participants had only five minutes each to present scientific and research topics. Hosted by the presenter Johnny Alemán, the audience had the opportunity to vote for the best presentation.
On Sunday, June 9th, the Science Festival continued with an innovative workshop on 3D printing applied to hydrogen as an energy vector. With two sessions, at 4:30 PM and 5:20 PM, this workshop featured the researchers Juande Sirvent, Gianfranco Sabato, Walter Zambelli, Ana María Martos, and Antonio María Asensio. Participants discovered the advantages of hydrogen as a renewable energy source and its production through 3D printing. Live demonstrations and learning activities allowed attendees to delve into this emerging technology that promises to transform the future of sustainable energy.
All activities took place at the Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria and the Commercial Plaza. This edition of the Festival is an unmissable event for anyone interested in science and technology. We look forward to seeing you with more activities at the 18th edition next year.
