The Catalan company EOLOS Floating Lidar Solutions and spin-off of IREC, has obtained a contract of more than 10 million euros from the government of the Netherlands to install its wind speed measurement technology in marine environments off the coast of the port of Rotterdam for two years.
The aim of the project is to collect information on the behaviour of the wind at a distance of between 60 and 100 kilometres from the coast for the correct development of future offshore wind farms.
The EOLOS technology consists of installing an oceanographic buoy through which data is obtained that allows providing valuable information to park developers.
In the case of the project with the Dutch government, through its agency Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO), EOLOS will install nine measuring equipment in one of the areas selected to host new wind power generation facilities for a period of 24 months that will start this July.
EOLOS was born in 2014 as a spin-off of an IREC technological research project financed by ACCIÓ on the measurement of wind aloft in marine environments.
