Introduction

Observing and measuring dynamic changes within materials and systems under real operational conditions is crucial for advancing energy technologies. In situ and operando analyses have become indispensable for achieving a comprehensive understanding of energy conversion and storage processes. These techniques provide real-time data on the mechanisms at play, enabling the precise fine-tuning and optimization of both materials and process parameters to achieve significant advancements in performance and efficiency.

This workshop aims to provide an overview of the capabilities and applications of various in situ/operando techniques. Participants will gain insight into how these methods can be applied to different energy processes, including battery technology and (photo)catalytic reactions. The workshop will cover a range of in situ/operando techniques including UV-vis spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), vibrational spectroscopies, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), highlighting their unique contributions to the field.

Attendees will learn how in situ/operando analyses can uncover the fundamental mechanisms driving energy processes, such as ion transport, phase transitions, and chemical reactions. Additionally, the workshop will showcase case studies and recent research breakthroughs achieved through these advanced techniques. By the end of the session, participants will have a deeper understanding of how to leverage in situ/operando analyses to accelerate the development of next-generation energy materials and technologies.

This comprehensive workshop is designed mainly for young researchers involved in the field of energy science and technology. Whether you are looking to enhance your knowledge of in situ/operando techniques or seeking to apply these methods to your own research, this workshop will provide valuable insights and practical guidance. Join us to explore the frontiers of energy research and discover how in situ/operando analyses are shaping the future of energy conversion and storage.
