When facing the climate crisis, a general increase in the energy price and the new era of digitalization, the energy sector has more to say than ever. In this context, around 200 representatives of companies and institutions, both public and private, have gathered on Tuesday the 25th of november, 2022, at the annual reference gathering: the Innovation Day Energia. It is a benchmark event in innovation in the energy sector that is co-organized by the Catalan Energy Cluster (CEEC), the Energy for Society Network (XRE4S) and, this year, also Endesa.

The session was articulated around three thematic issues: the green hydrogen and its deployment challenges, the energy flexibility and local energy communities and the need for an efficient building sector. Each session consisted in a round table with experts, followed by short pitches that provided technological solutions for each topic, to achieve a zero-emissions society. The conference focused on the importance of innovation aimed at sustainability in a sector that is strategic.

The welcome was performed by the Director of the XRE4S and Responsible for Corporate Development and Technology Transfer at IREC, Marta Fonrodona, and the president of the CEEC, Esther Izquierdo. Fonrodona valued “active collaboration and innovation among all the actors of the ecosystem is important, because they play a key role in the energy transition”.

Cristina Corchero, CTO of Bamboo Energy and head of the Energy Systems Analytics group at IREC, gave a presentation on innovation in the energy sector and in which she also presented the path for Bamboo Energy to become a start -up.
