What is Corporate Development & Technology Transfer all about?

  • Open innovation: new collaborations and R&D&i projects
  • Knowledge valorisation: results exploitation, IP management & spin-off creation
  • Open science and Reserach Impact
  • Innovation ecosystems

The Corporate Development and Technology Transfer department (KTT) drives the interface between scientific knowledge and innovation, societal impact and industry. It serves as a link between scientists and society, bridging the gap between IREC’s research and innovation and industry by fostering open innovation opportunities and new project oportunities, translating research results into value for society, dinamizing innovation ecosystems and ensuring measurable societal and economic outcomes. Our work includes:

Business Development

We identify and secure funding opportunities, build collaborative R&D&i projects and foster long-term relationships with industry partners at regional, national and European level.

Technology Transfer

We manage IREC’s intellectual property portfolio, support the protection and exploitation of research results and guide the creation of spin-offs and licensing agreements.

Open Science and Research Data Management

We ensure compliance with open-access mandates, manage research data plans and promote transparent science practices across all IREC departments.

Research Impact, Outreach & Scientific Communication

We measure and report on the societal and economic outcomes of IREC’s research and coordinate outreach activities to engage relevant stakeholders.

Strategic Actions

IREC’s strategyc actions aim to generate strategic impact on the territory

Strategic actions are a core instrument through which IREC consolidates its position as a reference centre in Catalonia and Europe for the energy transition. Rather than isolated initiatives, they form a connected set of activities designed to generate lasting impact on the territory and on the European energy system. IREC leads and participates in unique research platforms and large-scale facilities, including PlemCat, PRIMA and DIRECxTE, which provide the physical and organisational infrastructure for applied energy research at scale.

Alongside these, the institute actively shapes innovation ecosystems such as XRE4S and drives strategic collaborations including Battech and JRU Solar, which bring together industry, academia and public bodies around shared energy transition goals. Taken together, these actions reinforce IREC’s role as a catalyser of knowledge, talent and investment in the energy sector.
