IREC took part in the European Researchers’ Night 2026 on 25 September at the CosmoCaixa Science Museum in Barcelona, bringing energy research and innovation closer to citizens through different activities. The event brought together universities and research centres from across Catalonia for an evening dedicated to science, curiosity and discovery. Through talks, workshops, demonstrations and other activities, visitors of all ages had the opportunity to learn more about how research contributes to addressing some of today’s major challenges.

As part of the Science, Technology and Society programme, IREC researcher Marc Torrell delivered the talk “When advanced ceramics also take shape: 3D geometries for hydrogen technology.” The session introduced participants to the role of advanced ceramic materials in hydrogen technologies and explored how innovative 3D geometries can open up new possibilities for the development and optimisation of energy technologies.

IREC also organised the family workshop “Invisible Energy at Home”, carried out by Soledad Ibáñez, Iván Luque and Joaquim Romaní. Through practical activities and interactive challenges, participants explored how solar energy and ventilation influence the design and use of homes. The workshop encouraged families to look at everyday spaces from an energy perspective and discover how design and responsible use can contribute to more sustainable homes.

The participation of IREC in the European Researchers’ Night reflects the institute’s commitment to bringing energy research closer to society and encouraging public engagement with science and innovation. By combining scientific knowledge with hands-on experiences, the event offered visitors a glimpse into the research taking place today to help shape more sustainable energy technologies and living environments.
