IREC Participates in the 2025 International Day of Women and Girls in Science

Once again, the Catalonia Institute for Energy Research (IREC) joins the celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, reaffirming its commitment to visibility, recognition, and the full inclusion of women in the fields of research and technology. This event serves as an opportunity to highlight the contributions of women who, both in the past and present, have played a decisive role in scientific and technological progress in society.

As part of this initiative, IREC actively participates in the #científiques programme initiative organized by the Fundació Catalana per a la Recerca i la Innovació (FCRI) and the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST), with the collaboration of the department of Education of the Government of Catalonia. This program aims to bring science and technology closer to students in 6th grade and 1st year of secondary school by showcasing female role models from both the public and private sectors. Through this program, nine researchers and professionals from IREC will share their knowledge and experiences in several schools in Barcelona. The goal is to foster scientific and technological vocations among young students and raise awareness of the diverse career paths available in these fields, regardless of gender.

The IREC researchers participating in this edition are:

  • Alicia Ruiz-Caridad, researcher in the Nanoionics and Fuel Cells department.
  • Isabella Bulfaro, project engineer in the Energy Systems Analysis department.
  • Marta Fonrodona, director of Corporate Development, Knowledge and Technology Transfer (KTT)
  • Natalia Kostretsova, researcher in the Nanoionics and Fuel Cells department.
  • Yonca Belce, researcher in the Energy Storage, Extraction, and Catalysis department.
  • Olha Skurikhina, researcher in the Nanoionics and Fuel Cells department.
  • Ana María Martos Gómez, researcher in the Nanoionics and Fuel Cells department.
  • Paulina Martínez Alanis, researcher in the Functional Nanomaterials department.
  • Charise Cariño, researcher in the Energy Storage, Extraction, and Catalysis department.

This initiative not only aims to inspire new generations but also serves as a reminder that science and technology require the talent of everyone to move toward a more sustainable and innovative future. By participating in this event, IREC seeks to break stereotypes and open new opportunities for women in the scientific and technological fields.
