IREC begins its participation in the 19th edition of the Escolab program
Today, the Catalonia Institute for Energy Research (IREC), a CERCA center dedicated to research and technological development in the field of energy, welcomed 14 students from the Centre d’Estudis Stucom as part of the Escolab program. This initiative, promoted by Barcelona Science and Universities of the Barcelona City Council, aims to bring science and research closer to secondary school, high school, and vocational training students.
The visit, led by Dr. Juan Carlos González-Rosillo and Dr. Antonio María Asensio, was organized by the Nanoionics and Fuel Cells research department. During the event, students toured IREC’s facilities and laboratories, gaining first-hand insight into the work of researchers and the institute’s research lines. Additionally, they attended an informative session where they learned about IREC’s research areas, projects, and goals within the context of the energy transition.
These initiatives strengthen the connection between the educational and research communities, allowing students to learn beyond the classroom and understand the importance of research in developing sustainable technologies and promoting renewable energy in Catalonia.
Through the Escolab program, schools in Catalonia can connect students with the world of research through visits and workshops in scientific centers, fostering interest in scientific and technological careers. This initiative has enabled more than 30 scientific institutions in Catalonia to lead over 100 educational activities that bring science and innovation closer to the public at the local level.
