A step forward in the efficient generation of green hydrogen in Catalonia
After two years, DEFINE-SOEC, the INNOTEC project led by AMES in collaboration with IREC, has successfully concluded. With the primary goal of developing a new SOEC stacking concept for the generation of high-efficiency renewable hydrogen, DEFINE-SOEC strengthened the collaboration and cooperation of the industrial sector with IREC, as a TECNIO centre.
The Catalan industrial sector, represented by AMES, has demonstrated its willingness to enter the energy sector and the generation of renewable hydrogen, and thus diversify its activity, by contributing with its knowledge in powder metallurgy technology. With this knowledge from AMES and IREC’s expertise in SOEC technology, the consortium has successfully validated the potential of powder metallurgy for manufacturing high-performance metallic interconnectors. Furthermore, in close collaboration with IREC, protective coatings for the interconnectors have been developed to prevent degradation.
Additionally, the project has facilitated the development of a new deposition technology based on electrophoresis, resulting in more uniform and effective coatings. All these advancements in SOEC technology contribute to an enhanced durability of operational systems, which also improves their performance.

Lastly, all these developments have been validated at IREC and AMES facilities at the stack level, representing a step forward in the development of an own technology in the field of efficient green hydrogen generation in Catalonia.
