IREC contributes to the innovation ecosystem presented at MWC
IREC has once again taken part in the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026, held from 2 to 5 March at Fira Gran Via, Barcelona. Recognized as the world’s largest and most influential connectivity event, MWC brings together global industry leaders, startups, research centers, and policymakers to shape the future of digital technologies.
In parallel, 4YFN (4 Years From Now) has continued to strengthen Barcelona’s role as a European innovation hub, fostering entrepreneurship, investment, and technology transfer.
IREC’s presence at MWC 2026 reinforces its commitment to connecting advanced energy research with digital transformation and market-driven innovation. This year, IREC has showcased in The Collider stand both the newly born spin-off Oxhyd Energy SL and proprietary technology GridWatch that demonstrate how deep-tech research can translate into scalable, impactful solutions.
Oxhyd, an IREC spin-off specialized in advanced hydrogen technologies, is participating in MWC 2026 the The Collider space (Hall 8.1B44). The company is represented by its CTO, Juande Sirvent, highlighting its breakthrough developments in hydrogen production technologies designed to accelerate industrial decarbonization.
GridWatch, an IREC-developed technology platform focused on advanced grid monitoring and digital management solutions, was also featured at MWC 2026. Represented by Nuria Cantó, Pol Paradell and José Luis Domínguez, GRIDWATCH demonstrates how digital tools, real-time data analytics, and smart grid solutions are essential to ensuring resilience, flexibility, and efficiency in the energy transition.

The technology transfer team (KTT) from IREC, including Marta Fonrodona, Shanti Liga, Maria Méndez and Carles Rubio, was also present throughout the event, engaging with industry stakeholders, investors, and innovation partners to foster new collaboration and commercialization opportunities.
Through programs such as The Collider — which focuses on transferring technologies from research institutions and universities to market-ready ventures — IREC actively contributes to strengthening Catalonia’s deep-tech and energy innovation ecosystem. MWC 2026 once again demonstrates that the future of connectivity is inseparable from the future of sustainable energy — and IREC is proud to contribute to both.
