The GENIUS project marks a milestone in industrial digitalization

After 42 months of work, the GENIUS project concludes with key results for the digital and energy transformation of industry. Coordinated by a multidisciplinary consortium (CITCEA-UPC, IREC, Sorigué, and NVISION) with experts in electrical engineering, telecommunications, software development, renewable energy, and urban services, GENIUS has successfully met its technical objectives, establishing itself as a benchmark in the digital transformation of the energy and industrial sectors.

The project has demonstrated that data collection, processing, and analysis are essential for the digitalization of sectors such as photovoltaic energy, stationary storage, and electric vehicle fleets. Thanks to efficient and scalable communication systems, GENIUS enables improved energy management, reduced emissions, and data-driven decision-making throughout the industrial lifecycle.

As part of its achievements, GENIUS has developed 14 software tools and a hardware prototype of a stationary energy storage system based on second-life batteries from electric trucks, thereby validating its technological and interdisciplinary approach.

At IREC, Lluis Trilla, Camilo Henao and Andrés Bernabeu from the Power Electrical Systems Department have developed the digital twin of the electric vehicle, along with battery charging optimization algorithms and route assignment for collection operations.

GENIUS stands out as a flexible solution, ready to face the challenges of future industry with innovation, sustainability, and distributed intelligence.
